May I Help You?
Baba Sri Siva:
A few weeks ago I was meditating on how to help my students better and in a practical way. Something flashed in my inner mind. The message was that if anyone offers candlelight to my picture, as often as they can, there will be a resolution to their problems almost immediately or in the very near future.

My response to you is dependent on the intensity and sincerity of your prayer. Karma also plays a role in your continued suffering. Nevertheless, the light that you show to my picture will help to dissolve the karma and will aid you in reducing your pain.

This technique of showing, or offering, a candle to the guru or God is a very powerful ritual, which is more powerful than all meditations. Every religion, although they may have diverse ideology, has the light offering ceremony as a central part. It is a very common practice in Catholic churches in Italy. People light candles in front of the statues of Catholic saints, kneel down and send heartfelt prayers.

In India there lived a saint by the name of Shirdi Baba who was the previous incarnation of Satya Sai Baba. He was a very uncommon saint. Through his peculiar ways of dressing, and his staying at both the Hindu temples and Moslem mosques, he confused everyone about his religious identity. He worshipped both Allah and Rama. Shirdi Baba particularly recommended that his devotees offer candlelight to him. There are several thousand testimonies acknowledging the efficacy of the candle ritual.

My immediate inspiration to write this note came from an anecdote that recently took place here in India. There was an old lady who came to see me. She needed a few thousand rupees to pay to the bank. Already she had been behind a payment and there was a serious consequence if she didn't pay it immediately. A day prior someone had spoken to me about the woman and her sincerity. Her character and integrity were spotless and she would never ask for help from anyone. She would rather starve than ask for money from her friends and relatives. I offered to see this lady for less than a minute. She came in, bowed down and left. She never spoke about any of her problems, physical, financial or otherwise. She kept on thanking me for all the help that she had received from praying to me. After she had left, I sent her the money she needed for the bank to stay on good terms.

I constantly meditate on one thing. Regardless, everyone should get help while they are crying for it. I am very happy that the Divine continues to flow through me to answer the prayers of the needy.
